はじめに
私たちは、プロのインダストリアルデザイナーがつくる社団法人日本インダストリアルデザイナー協会の会員です。インダストリアルデザイナーとはプロダクトデザイナーとも言いますが、新幹線、自動車、電気製品、日用品など、暮らしに必要な様々な量産製品をデザインするデザイナーのことです。
その協会で1997年に環境の研究会をつくり「デザイナーとして環境のためになにが出来るか」を探求してきました。
そのデザイナーたちが考えた環境のためのデザイン成果を、たくさんの皆様にお伝えしようと、2003年にここOZONEでプロのインダストリアルデザイナーが発想するエコデザイン展を初めて開催しました。
2004年からは、デザインを学ぶ学生から参加者を募りエコデザイン教室を開いています。その成果と合わせてプロのデザイナーと学生による「プロと卵のエコデザイン展」を開催して、今年で9回目になります。
今回も「エコ・カクメイ」というテーマでたくさんのデザインアイデアを展示します。たくさんの皆さまに、ご覧いただければ幸いです。

エコ・カクメイ Ecology＋revolution through design
3月11日に発生した東北地方太平洋沖地震は、私たちにあらためて大きな気づきと課題をもたらしました。今こそ、エコデザインの思想と挑戦は、未来への希望につなげるデザインパワーとして、新たな世界を創るために役立てなければなりません。
今年のテーマは「エコ・カクメイ」とさせていただきました。あえて革命がカタカナの「カクメイ」なのは、争い勝ち取るのではなく、デザインによるドキドキ、ワクワクを伝える夢と希望がもたらす平和的未来志向の『カクメイ』の決意表明です。
20世紀は化石エネルギーをベースにした大量生産、大量消費、大量廃棄の時代でした。そのおかげで、私たちは便利で豊かな暮らしを手に入れる事ができました。
その反面、地球レベルでの被害や環境の悪化や資源の枯渇により、もはやこのままでは次世代の未来はたち行かなくなるのではと考えられています。
私たちは今一度立ち止まり、本当に良いくらし、生き方とはなにか？を真剣に考え、自身が大きく変わらなければならない時がきているように思います。
自然と調和した持続可能で、誰もが安心安全に暮らせる未来をめざして、デザイナーとして今なにができるのか？
次の世代につなぐ「エコ・カクメイ」に想いを込めて、プロと卵が様々な視点で未来を切り開くアイデアとデザインを提案いたします。

Foreword
We are members of the Japan Industrial Designers’ Association (JIDA), an organization made up of professional industrial designers. Sometimes referred to as ‘product designers’, industrial designers design all manner of mass-produced products that are an integral part of everyday life, such as shinkansen (‘bullet trains’), cars, electrical goods and other daily necessities.
In 1997, JIDA set up an environmental research committee and since then, we have been looking into the question of what designers can do for the environment.
With the idea of showing large numbers of people the environmentally-friendly designs that resulted from those designers’ efforts, the first eco-design exhibition was held in 2003 here at OZONE, showcasing designs created by professional industrial designers.
From 2004 onwards we have been running an eco design class, finding participants from among design students. With the resulting designs from that class, combined with those from professional designers, we have been putting on a “New ideas in eco design novice and professional concepts” exhibition, with this year being the ninth time it’s been held.
Once again this year, many design ideas are on display, based around the theme of “Ecology＋revolution through design.”
We very much hope that many people will come and see this exhibition.

Ecology + revolution through design
The Tohoku - Pacific Ocean Earthquake on March 11 brought us anew a devastating lesson and an immense task. Now is the time, through the power of design, to make use of the concept and endeavors in Eco-design to build a new world that leads us to future hopes.
The theme for this year we've set up is “Ecology + revolution through design”, so as to show that we aim at a peaceful futurist “revolution” led by dreams and hopes, conveying design-driven excitement and thrilling sensations, rather than a revolution won by fighting.
The 20th century was a century of mass-production, mass-consumption and mass-disposal based on fossil energy, owing to which we were able to acquire convenience and enriched lives. On the flip side, it is thought that the future of the next generation will be in a dire situation if things are kept at this pace, due to disasters, environmental deterioration and depletion of energy resources on a global scale.
We feel the time has come to take a pause and seriously contemplate on what good living and way of living in a true sense are, and make drastic changes inthe way we are on an individual basis.
What can a designer do today towards a sustainable future in harmony with nature, and in which everybody can live safely and at peace?
With the concept of “Ecology + revolution” to be relayed to the next generation, held strongly in our minds, professional and promising designers will propose ideas and designs that will open up our future from diverse viewpoints.
